OUR MISSION

To save lives, relieve the suffering of the sick and injured, and promote safety.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES

Providing Emergency Medical Service is the Squad’s primary activity. All of our career and volunteer staff members are highly-trained Emergency Medical Technicians and are prepared to deliver care in a wide variety of life-threatening situations, including childbirth, allergic reactions, respiratory emergencies, traumatic injuries, and cardiac arrest. Our EMTs engage in continuing education classes and regular training sessions to ensure they are ready to serve our community with the highest quality care possible.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT

The Squad plans for incidents where the potential for many patient emergencies exists. In these situations, the Squad ensures appropriate EMS coverage and patient accessibility. At crowded events, for example, Squad members may erect portable first aid and cooling stations and dispatch EMTs on foot and bicycles to ensure patients in need can be reached quickly and treated effectively. Events that require community support include sporting events, concerts, parades, and fireworks displays.

EDUCATION

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS

This certification course is for health care providers, such as EMTs, nurses, and others who need certification in Healthcare Provider CPR (also known as Basic Life Support). This course also satisfies the “CPR for the Professional Rescuer” requirement. Certification is valid for 2 years. (Full class: 4 ½ hours, Recertification: 3 hours) Healthcare Provider classes generally are offered once per month. Classes are scheduled about one month in advance. The fee is $75 per person and includes educational documentation.

Standby Events

While the majority of our time is spent on duty responding to 911 calls, we pride ourselves on our ability to serve the community through standby events.

“Standbys” are often events that require an EMS presence for the safety of the participants, but our members also enjoy going to group meetings (good examples include Scouts, school classes, and community get-togethers) to provide education about pre-hospital medical care and how the average citizen can help. Donations are always accepted for the time our volunteers spend.

Our desire to provide our pre-hospital expertise is all-encompassing. Annual activities include everything from manning ambulances at the Christmas Tree Lighting to coordinating the rapid response teams and transport vehicles for many of the events and festivals, and much more.

In addition to the standbys we take care of regularly, we love getting to meet members of the community at events such as Relay for Life; Matawan Day/Aberdeen Day; and Wall Stadium Racetrack (to name a few). Our members’ dedication and willingness to go above and beyond is what sets BEMS apart, so if you are interested in having our squad keep you and your guests safe at your next event, email info@mafirstaid.org for more information.
